• The P-51 Mustang is recognized as by many to be the most effective fighter aircraft of WWII. The P-51 Mustang came into being once the British buying Commission asked Us Aviation to produce the Curtiss P-40 for the RAF, but North American stated they are able to build something better. The P-51D is known as by many specialists to be the definitive variant of this Mustang because it was the most commonly produced. It featured a bubble canopy which offered the pilot superb all-round visibility along with a weightier armament of six 12.7mm machine weapons. Wing racks allowed the carriage of fall tanks to give range or bombs for ground attack.
