The Tamiya 1/72 Kawanishi N1K1-Ja Shiden Type 11 Koh kit represents a noteworthy Japanese fighter that began as the Kawanishi N1K1 "Kyofu" floatplane. Converted into a land-based fighter by Kawanishi in 1942, the Shiden combined impressive handling with an unconventional development path.
Powered by the Nakajima Homare engine, the aircraft required a large propeller and telescopic landing gear to clear the mid-mounted wing. Despite mechanical teething issues, production reached about 1,000 airframes which saw service across the Philippines, Formosa, Okinawa and sorties over Honshu.
The kit appeals to modellers who enjoy accurate parts fit and historical subjects. With careful assembly and paint work the finished model makes an authoritative shelf piece reflecting the Shiden's engineering and wartime role.
