Towards Vought F4U-1A Corsair

Introduced into solution in 1942, the Vought F4U-1 featured inverted gull wings and an enormous 2,000hp engine spinning the biggest propeller attached to a fighter during the time. Even though the fighter's performance and toughness was quite impressive, inadequacies like insufficient forward exposure, limited all-round visibility as a result of the very early frame-like canopy, as well as the tendency the left and right wings to stall at various rates resulted in different improvements being added throughout manufacturing, fundamentally resulting in the F4U-1A version. These improvements included a lengthier tailwheel leg for better forward visibility, a fresh canopy for better all-round exposure, and a nearly unnoticeable 15cm 'stall strip' fixed to the leading edge of the proper wing to ensure both wings would stall within same speed.
