Designed to extend the performance envelope of the Fw190 family, the D-9 version used the powerful Jumo 213 engine and a stretched fuselage to improve climb and high-altitude handling. These changes made the aircraft more capable against allied threats at altitude.
The Fw190D-9 entered frontline service in late 1944, operating with formations like III/JG 54 "Grunherz" to provide escort and defensive patrols alongside early jet operations. Tamiya's kit reflects the key external differences that distinguish the D-9 from earlier Fw190 types.
In 1/48 scale this Tamiya kit shows crisp moulding and clear definition of the extended nose and canopy styles. Builders can expect a rewarding assembly with scope for painting, weathering and choosing period-accurate decals for an authentic display piece.
