The Douglas A-1 Skyraider is recognised for its rugged service and payload capability in naval operations. Conceived during the closing stages of World War II, it was intended to carry heavy loads for torpedo and dive bombing missions. Tamiya's 1/48 scale model aims to represent these qualities while giving modellers a rewarding assembly experience.
Design work kicked off in July 1944 and the first flight occurred in March 1945. A production order of 598 units was placed by May 1945. The Skyraider was driven by the Wright R3350 radial engine, producing roughly 2,800 horsepower, and its fuselage incorporated three large dive brakes that were distinctive in service.
The Tamiya 1/48 Douglas A-1 Skyraider reproduces the plane's robust structure and options for external stores. Accurate surface features and part layout let builders depict service configurations and add realistic finishing touches, making it attractive to those focused on military aviation subjects.
