The Nakajima Gekko Type 11, labelled "Irving" by Allied pilots, served as a specialised night fighter in WWII. Its twin-engine design and angled gun installation allowed attacks from off-axis positions at night. Tamiya captures these defining traits in a compact 1/48 package for model builders.
Developed to intercept enemy bombers after dark, the Gekko used oblique-firing guns to strike without a frontal approach. The model recreates that armament arrangement and offers the option to depict the gun inspection hatch open for a more technical display.
Precision moulding by Tamiya yields parts that fit cleanly, and the kit includes two separate decal schemes plus two pilot figures to finish a historically styled display model. The completed build showcases the aircrafts unique night-fighter engineering.
