The Il-2 Shturmovik earned its reputation as a tough ground-attack aircraft in World War II, designed with armour to protect key components and crew. While early examples were single-seat, later production commonly featured a rear gunner to boost defence.
Favoured for frontline support, the Il-2 combined protection and firepower to survive harsh missions. Its role was central to many Soviet operations, with design priorities that focused on staying airborne under fire.
Tamiya's 1/48 kit represents the later two-seat Il-2 layout and swept outer wings. The parts reflect cockpit detail and external fittings so builders can recreate accurate profiles at this scale.
Detailed cockpit mouldings and faithful radiator and oil cooler shapes make assembly rewarding for careful builders. Various canopy choices and armament parts allow different stances, and the three decal schemes provide authentic finishing options for models destined for display.
