The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a landmark naval fighter developed for the US Navy's VFX project. This twin-engine supersonic aircraft served from the 1970s and is recognised for its role as an interceptor and air superiority fighter. The F-14A introduced the variable-sweep wing that became central to the type's capability.
Tamiya's 1/48 kit recreates the Tomcat's lines and working elements. The assembled fuselage measures 398mm, while the wingspan can be represented from 212mm up to 408mm depending on sweep. Moveable swing wings are included and can be positioned between about 20 and 75 degrees. You can present the model with the undercarriage deployed to show a parked stance.
The kit supplies alternate components to depict different airbag and sealing plate layouts. The canopy may be modelled open, and a ladder and steps are provided for either stowed or extended placement. Three marking schemes are included: two U.S. Navy patterns and one from the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force for variety in display options.
