Build and Learn with the Tamiya 70169 Rescue Crawler

The Tamiya 70169 Rescue Crawler is an educational model kit that offers a hands-on path into mechanics and remote control systems. It is aimed at hobbyists and students who want to understand how motors, gearboxes and tracked drivetrains interact in a real build.

Track System and Obstacle Handling

This crawler uses three pairs of tracks to improve grip and obstacle crossing. The front two track units can tilt from 80 degrees up to 20 degrees down, allowing the vehicle to climb or descend over stumps, steps and rough terrain. The crane at the rear is operable for practical rescue-style tasks.

What Comes in the Box

The kit includes the twin motor gearbox, a 4-speed crank gearbox and a 3-channel R/C unit to illustrate power transmission and control. A universal mounting plate is supplied so you can test alternate layouts or add lightweight accessories for trial fits.

Battery Notes

Two R20/D/UM1 batteries are required but not included. Supplying batteries separately allows builders to pick the capacity and brand that best fits their needs.

Specifications

  • Material: Plastic
  • Power Source: Requires 2 x R20/D/UM1 batteries (not included)
  • Articulation: Front tracks adjustable from -20 to +80 degrees
Basic modelling tools such as small screwdrivers, pliers and side cutters are enough. No advanced tools are required, though a steady workspace helps with gearbox assembly.
The crane can lift lightweight objects and perform simple retrievals to demonstrate mechanism function, but it is not intended for heavy loads without reinforcement.
