Mechanical Turtle Four-Leg Crawler

The Tamiya Mechanical Turtle is part of the Robocraft Series and gives a clear example of converting rotary power into walking motion. The four-legged layout produces a steady crawl that is both instructive and attractive on display.

How it Moves

Motor-driven crank plates drive the legs to create the crawling action. The front and rear leg assemblies are moulded as single pieces, with the front plate mounted on a ball joint to reproduce a natural stepping movement. Clear components in the body and legs add visual interest.

Whats in the Box

The kit supplies the body, leg parts, motor, gearbox, switch and fasteners. The build uses a combination of screws and snap-fit parts to suit a range of model makers. Rubber-capped cable ends and marked cut positions simplify the electrical connections.

Best Surfaces

The transparent green-accent switch controls forward and reverse motion and complements the design. For best results operate the turtle on flat, smooth surfaces; uneven ground or heavy carpet will hinder movement.
