The Tamiya 71114 Mechanical Blowfish brings mechanical linkages to life in a small aquatic model. It is great for tinkerers who want to observe mechanical motion while running a model in water.
A crankshaft and linkage rod power an oscillating tail fin that pushes the model forward. The translucent green upper shell exposes the internal movement, while the white lower shell conceals the motor, gearbox, battery compartment, and water-resistant switch.
The design uses waterproof tape and rubber O-rings at key entry points including screw locations, the power switch, and the tail joint to minimise water ingress and protect the internal components.
Change the swim direction by rotating the stopper located at the tail base to the left or right. The tail material is easy to trim so you can test different shapes to alter speed and turning behaviour.
