The Tamiya 71119 Stag Beetle kit is a practical starter into hobby robotics for younger drivers. From Tamiya's Robocraft lineup, it explains mechanical basics by assembling and operating a running model. The clear bodywork shows gear and motor action while the kit moves.
This design includes two motors inside pre-assembled gearboxes to enable forward and reverse movement and left and right turns. A straightforward 2-stick, 2-channel controller with a self-neutral feature makes driving intuitive. The mouth is mechanically linked to leg movement to produce an opening and closing motion, and the internal teeth layout can be changed to suit personal taste.
Construction requires screws and a screwdriver is supplied to make the build accessible. The assembly process gives learners exposure to gears, linkages and simple mechanical systems. Two R6/AA/UM3 alkaline batteries power the model but are not supplied.
