Hands On Learning with the Tamiya 71202 Microcomputer Robot Kit

The Tamiya 71202 Microcomputer Robot Kit is built as an accessible introduction to robotics and simple coding. Its wheeled platform combines a BBC micro:bit, ultrasonic sensor and motor driver to react to obstacles and move around a track.

Interactive Elements That Teach

The robot arrives with a pre loaded program so you can see how sensor input controls motion. As it travels the arms and head move, creating a clear link between code and action. Users can edit the BBC micro:bit code in MakeCode to add new behaviours and experiments.

Options for Remote Operation

Pairing a second BBC micro:bit (sold separately) enables remote control and more advanced projects, turning the kit into a platform for further learning and team tasks.

Specifications

  • Length: 136 mm
  • Width: 128 mm
  • Height: 116 mm
  • Supplied with two Type 130 motors
  • No cement needed for assembly
Assembly is aimed at beginners and hobbyists; parts fit together without glue and basic tools are all that are required.
The platform is flexible: you can expand projects by modifying the BBC micro:bit code or adding compatible sensors, keeping within the micro:bit hardware limits.
It requires two R6/AA/UM3 batteries, which are not included with the kit.
