The Tamiya 75027 Line Tracing Snail II is a compact STEM kit that introduces basic robotic concepts and simple circuitry through assembly. Once built, the snail follows a black line on white paper and provides a hands-on demo of autonomous behaviour for hobby builders and classrooms.
The chassis and shell are moulded in smoke-colored ABS resin and the kit includes two motors plus pre-wired parts such as the sensor array and circuit board. Line detection uses an infrared LED paired with a phototransistor so the model can navigate automatically, and a green LED indicates when the track is sensed.
Included controls are a speed switch and a sensor adjustment dial to help tweak responsiveness. On seeing a black line the right motor engages to steer forward and left; away from the line the left motor takes over to steer right. That alternating motor action keeps the snail tracking the route.
