Mogami Warship Model in 1/350 Scale

The Tamiya 1/350 Japanese Heavy Cruiser Mogami kit offers a faithful scale interpretation of a prominent WWII cruiser. Built at Kure Naval Arsenal under the 1931 First Fleet Replenish Program, Mogami carried 15.5cm turrets and multiple torpedo launchers in an 8,500-ton displacement configuration.

Following treaty changes, the ship was refitted with 20.3cm guns which increased top-weight and created stability challenges. Mogami saw action in the Java campaign, Indian Ocean operations and at Midway before its eventual defeat. The kit aims to represent these historical stages for serious builders.

Construction and Finishing Tips

Recommended for experienced builders, the Mogami model measures 573mm long and 76mm wide at 1/350. Parts are finely detailed and require precise assembly, careful sanding and painting to achieve an accurate nautical appearance.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/350
  • Length: 573mm
  • Width: 76mm
Experience with small part assembly, photo-etch handling, and fine brushwork will make the build smoother and the finish more authentic.
The kit includes decals for relevant markings; they match the kit's scale and should be applied with care for correct placement and realism.
Fine tweezers, magnification and a steady touch are useful. Many builders use silk or micro thread and a small jig to keep rigging lines straight.
