The battleship Yamato is a hallmark of WWII naval architecture, completed in December 1941 with a 256 metre waterline and around 70,000 tons displacement. Its main battery of nine 46cm guns had a firing range of up to 41 kilometres, and design elements like substantial armour and a bulbous bow marked it as a top-tier capital ship during engagements such as Leyte Gulf and Midway.
Tamiya 78030 presents the Yamato in 1/350 scale, resulting in a model 751.5mm long. The one-piece moulded hull ensures straight assembly, while precise engraving and detailed bridge, funnel and mast parts reproduce the ship's silhouette and deck fittings with a high degree of accuracy.
The kit includes triple 45-calibre 46cm gun turrets with waterproof covers, secondary battery pieces like 15.5cm and 12.7cm guns, and numerous 25mm mountings. Functional details such as the stern crane and operational rangefinders are included, plus four reconnaissance floatplanes to populate the aircraft decks.
