Tamiya 87111 Texture Paint in Grass Green is a paste-style, water-based product containing 5mm coloured fibres to imitate turf on scale scenes. For the truest effect, use it on top of Diorama Texture Paint (Soil Effect) as a base layer.

How Much and How Fast

One 40ml bottle will typically cover a B4 area with a single application. Expect drying to take around 3-4 hours in warm conditions and closer to 4-5 hours when it is cooler. The low-odour water base means simple cleanup with water before the paint sets. Apply with a palette knife or an old brush to avoid wearing out new brushes.

Adjusting Colour and Adding Detail

You can tint small amounts of the texture with other Tamiya acrylics to get different shades. Enamel washes and light dry brushing on the dried texture can enhance definition. Do not attempt to atomise this paint via airbrush as the fibres and paste composition will block nozzles.

Notes on Visual Result

This paint gives a grassy mat rather than distinct single blades, so plan the diorama foliage accordingly. Its water-based formula keeps fumes down and makes studio cleanup straightforward.
