The North American P-51D Mustang, introduced in May 1944, used a laminar-flow wing to improve aerodynamic efficiency and was powered by the Packard Merlin V1650-7 supercharged engine. The design included a teardrop canopy for improved pilot view and carried six 13.7mm guns. Fitted with auxiliary drop tanks the Mustang extended escort range for bomber raids.
As factories retasked for wartime output the U.S. auto industry built service vehicles such as the 4-door staff car, typically with rear-hinged doors and a V8 engine. This miniature staff car complements the Mustang and helps recreate authentic period scenes.
