The Reggiane Re.2002 was introduced as an enhanced version of the Re.2000, featuring an air-cooled powerplant and several machine guns that suited it to fighter-bomber duties during World War II. It took part in notable operations including the Sicily invasion and some aircraft later joined Allied forces after the armistice.
Tamiya's 1/48 kit, incorporating certain Italeri airframe parts, accurately reproduces the Re.2002's narrow engine cowl and compact layout. Finished dimensions are roughly 170mm in length with a wingspan of 229mm, and builders can choose between open or closed canopy assembly and settable flaps for varied presentation.
The package contains a 500kg drop tank plus airfield extras such as fuel drums and jerry cans to assist diorama building. A seated pilot figure and decals for several historical markings are included, and a photographic reference manual helps with painting and finishing decisions.
