What the Mechanical Racehorse delivers

The Tamiya Mechanical Racehorse finished model is a ready-made entry in the STEM Series that highlights mechanical linkage and simple drivetrain behavior. As a finished model it reduces setup time so users can observe moving parts right away.

Leg system and motion modes

Designed with smooth front rollers and rear leg grips, the model balances glide and traction. The rear grips can be tuned for different surfaces, and by altering the link rod position on the back legs you can choose between two distinct running motions.

Technical features

Equipped with a Type 130 motor and a 16.6:1 gear ratio, the racehorse can negotiate slight inclines similar to those on small junior tracks. Assembly uses basic screws and exposed wiring to ease learning and quick checks. The model needs one R6/AA/UM3 battery which must be purchased separately.

Loosen the specified screws and reposition the grip pads to change their contact angle. Retighten and test on the intended surface to dial in traction.
Yes. Its pre-assembled state and visible mechanics make it an approachable display for those new to mechanical hobby projects and STEM concepts.
Low-pile or firm carpets may work but performance is best on smoother surfaces. Adjust the rear grips to increase traction if trying softer surfaces.
