Tamiya 58280 TXT-1 TAMIYA XTREME TRUCK: ladder-frame 1/8 monster truck built for visible drivetrain performance

Chassis architecture and general layout

The TXT-1 uses an aluminium ladder-frame chassis to emulate full-size monster truck structure. Twin motors are arranged in parallel and drive a prop shaft to both axles; the gearbox provides a two-level reduction to keep the drivetrain compact. The kit contains parts for four-wheel steering and an extra servo saver, indicating emphasis on mechanical hardware rather than bundled electronics.

Suspension and steering mechanics

Rigid solid-axle suspension with cantilever linkages and multi-link attachments creates a very large articulation envelope compared with smaller independent systems. Steering servos mount close to the axles for short, direct linkage runs, and steering tie rods are split into two segments to align with heavy-duty geometry.

Powertrain and drivetrain description

The TXT-1 is intended to use two type 540 motors driving a shaft-driven 4WD system with bevel differentials at both ends. A 3-step speed controller appears in the original specification as a referenced ESC type; the kit itself focuses on mechanical layout and gearbox design rather than including motor electronics.

Scale presence and mechanical character

At about 510 mm long with oversize tyres and a wide stance, the TXT-1 projects the bulk and mechanical feel of a classic monster truck. The combination of an aluminium frame, 4-link rigid mounts and long-travel CVA dampers produces both an imposing display model and a chassis suited to heavy off-road impacts.

Suitability for builders and collectors

Presented as a parts-rich assembly kit, the TXT-1 is aimed at seasoned hobbyists who appreciate exposed drivetrain elements and structural detail. It is equally appealing to collectors who enjoy large-scale, mechanically faithful models.

you are great the product is well fancy
The steering layout uses reinforced servo mounts and an extra servo saver to reduce stress on linkages. Proper assembly and correct servo sizing will improve longevity under demanding conditions.
Adjusting damper oil, spring rates and link lengths will change articulation and damping characteristics. Since the TXT-1 uses long-travel components, progressive damping and careful preload tuning help control body motion.
Wide track and large tyres increase roll stability and presence but reduce nimbleness. The design favors steady off-road performance over sharp on-road handling.
Its construction and visible mechanics make it excellent for display and heavy recreational off-road use; it is not optimised for tight-course competitive racing where lightweight agility is needed.
Hobbyists with prior assembly experience who want a mechanically honest, large-scale truck with exposed drivetrain parts will appreciate the TXT-1.
