Trumpeter 01626 Detailed 1/72 Wellington Mk.1C

Designed by R.K. Pierson and built by Vickers-Armstrongs, the Wellington Mk.1C was a reliable twin-engined bomber in the early stages of World War II. Its geodetic frame offered strong, resilient construction, and this Trumpeter 01626 kit captures that aspect with accurate plastic components and scale-correct shaping.

Service Record and Model Accuracy

More than 2,600 Wellingtons were produced, and the Mk.1C typically carried a crew of six, eight 7.7mm machine guns, plus a bomb capacity over 2,000 kg. The model represents the aircraft proportions faithfully, mirroring the 86 feet 2 inches wingspan and 64 feet 7 inches length that supported long-range missions at up to 235 mph and a 2,550 mile range.

Assembly Details and Finishing

The 1/72 scale kit contains 192 parts spread over 10 sprues, and offers optional flaps plus a decal sheet for the P9245/OJ-W 149 Squadron RAF, Suffolk 1940 scheme. Once built, the miniature displays the Wellington's distinctive silhouette and makes a solid addition to a WWII collection or diorama.

The detailed parts and precise fit make this kit best suited to intermediate or experienced modellers who are comfortable with small assemblies and painting.
Fine tweezers, a sharp hobby knife, sanding sticks and a small drill are useful for cleaning parts and detailing; an airbrush helps for large surfaces.
Yes, light washes, careful chipping and subtle pigment dusting can convey operational wear while preserving the geodetic pattern.
Decals are provided for a specific 149 Squadron marking; they usually need trimming and use of decal solution for the best adhesion and contouring.
