The Trumpeter 1:32 F6F-5N Hellcat kit recreates the night fighter variant with solid attention to its operational equipment. The AN/APS-6 radar and reinforced armament of two 20mm cannons plus four .50 caliber machine guns made the F6F-5N effective in nocturnal interception roles.

Grumman manufactured 1,432 F6F-5N aircraft that flew from both carrier decks and land bases with U.S. Navy and Marine Corps units. Aside from radar gear and weapons, the airframe largely matched the F6F-5 series.
