The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 originated as an evolution of the MiG-1 to enhance high-altitude performance and entered production in December 1940. Deliveries to frontline units started in April 1941; series production largely ended by late December 1941 owing to limited AM-35A engine availability. Production totals reached approximately 3,120 airframes, with about 50 more assembled from spares in early 1942. The aircraft was a high-altitude interceptor with a wingspan of 10.20 m, length of 8.26 m, and a maximum speed near 640 km/h at altitude.

The kit recreates the early wartime silhouette at 1:48 scale; model length and wingspan correspond to the kit's published measurements. Plastic parts are arranged on several sprues to depict major airframe sections, and the supplied decal sheet covers Soviet VVS markings documented on early-production examples.
