The Grumman F9F Panther occupies a key spot in carrier aviation history as Grumman's first jet fighter and the second jet type to join US Navy service. Its first flight in 1947 ushered in routine jet operations at sea. The Panther used the Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet, license-built by Pratt & Whitney as the J42, and carried wingtip tanks to extend its fuel endurance.
The F9F-2P was the dedicated photographic reconnaissance version active during the Korean War, giving valuable operational pictures. Trumpeter's 1:48 kit reproduces the Panther's silhouette and mission fittings, making it suitable for display collections focused on postwar naval aviation.
The set comprises 124 plastic components on four sprues, providing a focused construction sequence with good surface detail. The finished model measures 239.7mm long with a wingspan of 241.7mm, a practical size for display cabinets and modelling competitions. Both experienced modellers and steady beginners will find the build rewarding.
