This 1:700 scale plastic model captures the World War II heavy cruiser USS San Francisco CA-38, released as part of Trumpeter's 1:700 warship collection and intended for modellers aiming for accurate external presentation.
The New Orleans class were the terminal interwar heavy cruisers constructed for the United States Navy under treaty constraints. Seven vessels shared broadly similar profiles; wartime modifications increased displacement as radar, electronics and extra anti-aircraft weaponry were fitted. Ships of this class performed extensive service across the Pacific and surviving ships accumulated multiple battle honours during the conflict.
The kit reproduces the 1944 appearance of USS San Francisco, and the decal sheet provides the Measure 33/13d camouflage markings. Notable moulding features include a one-piece slide-moulded upper hull that aids alignment and reduces seam work. The assembly and parts arrangement favour modellers focused on deck detail and external fittings rather than interior components.
A precise small-scale kit that presents USS San Francisco in her 1944 camouflaged state, aimed at modellers prioritising external authenticity and display results.
