The German Sd.kfz.186 Jagdtiger served as a heavy tank destroyer in World War II, intended to engage armoured targets and infantry at distance. Development got underway in February 1943 and a wooden mock-up was shown to Adolf Hitler by October, marking a major development step. Initially it carried the Jagdpanzer VI designation before becoming known as the Jagdtiger.
Two prototype types were trialled with different suspensions, from Porsche and Henschel. The Henschel design used nine road wheels and moved to production in July 1944 after the planned December 1943 start was delayed due to higher priority projects such as the Pz.Kpfw V Panther.
The Trumpeter 07254 box contains 92 parts to recreate the Jagdtiger at 1:72 scale, giving builders access to fine surface detail and options for realistic finishing. Decals are supplied for the German three-colour sand/green/brown pattern to help achieve an authentic look.
