R12/GT X-shock soft replacement spring

The Yokomo R12-37SS is a soft-rate replacement spring intended for X-style shocks on R12 and GT series 1/10-scale RC cars. As a tuning item it reduces initial compression stiffness and adjusts rebound characteristics, helping you refine chassis balance without swapping pistons or altering oil viscosity.

Installation is approachable for hobbyists who service shocks: remove the shock cap and spring retainer, extract the old coil, position the R12-37SS with proper orientation on the shaft, then rebuild and check preload. A secure bench and common shock tools will speed the job and prevent lost parts.

In practice the soft spring is typically used to:

  • Boost mechanical traction on low-traction surfaces through increased initial compliance.
  • Soften responses to small bumps and curbs, aiding mid-corner stability.
  • Work with softer oil or lower preload to fine-tune roll and turn-in characteristics.

Consider this spring when you want a progressive, smoother weight transfer and have already tuned anti-roll bars and ride height.

Not necessarily. Spring fatigue depends on material and use. The R12-37SS is for tuning; regular inspection is advised after heavy sessions, but normal club use should not cause rapid wear.
The soft rate helps absorb small impacts, but on very rough or high-impact tracks you may need more travel or different spring rates to avoid bottoming. Evaluate track demands before fitting.
Ensure correct spring length and preload so the spring does not bottom out on the shaft. Check travel and rebound limits after installation and adjust collars or pistons if required.
