How a harder coil affects handling

This item is an RC-scale shock spring crafted for use in general R/C spring sets and for suspension tuning. The Yokomo YOKR12-37SH X Shock Hard Spring features a stiffer rate than softer coils and is intended to alter how the suspension reacts rather than to serve as a structural component.

Installing the spring is routine for anyone familiar with threaded shock assemblies: remove the damper shaft assembly, exchange the coil onto the shock body, reset preload and retainers, then verify free travel and damping action. No specialist tools are required beyond standard shock service tools and a clean bench.

Tuning impact: fitting a hard-rate spring raises ride stiffness, trims body roll and lessens squat during acceleration, moving balance toward firmer compression control. You will feel differences in both compression and rebound, so match the spring to suitable shock oil and piston selections to hit your target damping profile.

Tuning advice: alter one setting at a time and run repeatable tests, keep a record of damper settings, and if the chassis becomes too firm over small bumps try reducing preload or selecting a lighter oil rather than immediately reverting to a softer spring.

Remark :
Due to limited stock availability, please notice that some Yokomo items may have to order from the factory and the ready time is around 4-6 weeks. Customer purchases the item is assumed to accept the waiting time which allows us to order directly from the manufacturer if the item is out of our warehouse.
Oil choice depends on piston and desired damping. Start with your current oil and adjust viscosity one step at a time; if the car feels too harsh, try a lighter oil before changing spring hardware.
A harder coil can sharpen turn-in by reducing weight transfer, but it can also decrease traction on irregular surfaces. Balance front and rear spring rates to tune entry without sacrificing mid-corner grip.
Adjusting piston size is a common follow-up to spring changes. If compression feels too abrupt, try a smaller or more restrictive piston to control speed, or select oil to fine-tune compression damping.
