This accessory for RC-scale drivetrains provides fine control over gear mesh and lateral spacing. Drive gear shims are thin spacer rings placed between gears or between a gear and its bearing surface to take up slack, stop binding, and sharpen alignment without swapping out larger components.
Installation is generally simple on most hobby drivetrains: remove the gear, slip in or remove shims to change axial location, then rebuild and check mesh under slow rotation. Even slight changes in shim thickness can affect drivetrain noise, wear tendencies, and general feel, so make incremental adjustments and re-evaluate clearance after each change.
In tuning work, these shims are an affordable way to tweak engagement when you want quieter running or less backlash. They are intended for model use only and for incremental setup work on the bench or at events.
